Dr. Holly Hoffman is our Diaconal Minister at St. Paul. Holly was born in Deer Park Maryland near Deep Creek Lake, grew up between Ohio and Florida, and received her college education at the University of Florida (Bachelors in Zoology 1979) and the University of South Florida College of Medicine (MD in 1982). After a pediatric residency in Cincinnati Ohio she came to Carlisle in 1985 and still works full-time as a partner at Carlisle Pediatric Associates.
While practicing pediatric medicine, she noticed that many young people in her practice needed a spiritual anchor for their lives, so she began taking classes at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg and completed her Master’s Degree in Ministerial Studies in 2009. She was consecrated as St. Paul’s Diaconal Minister on Sept. 19, 2010. Within the church she helps with youth service events and runs a spiritual support group. She is actively involved in many community-oriented projects with Carlisle’s neighborhood associations, with medical ministries to Kenya, Haiti and Guatemala, with dental outreach to the uninsured in 3 local counties, and with immigrant mothers-to-be in Harrisburg. She is also on the board of an immigrant detention visitation ministry and does immigrant advocacy with LIRS and LAMPa..
When she gets bored doing all that, she has her two young adult children and “zoo” full of cats, chickens, fish and a variety of other creatures to keep her busy.
