The 29th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Event will be held on January 14, 2018. The event will include a march which will begin at 2:45 p.m. at First Lutheran Church and proceed to the Old Courthouse for a short program. We will then march back to the church for a service beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Keynote Speaker will be Rozella Haydee White, the Houston City Director for Mission Year and formally the Director of Young Adult Ministry for the ELCA. Ms. White has been a keynote speaker at the ELCA churchwide youth gatherings as well as multiple synod assemblies. She is also a prolific writer and has written articles for The Salt Collective, Living Lutheran, ShePreaches Magazine, Believe Out Loud, Café, The Mudroom, and Thirty Seconds or Less. Her first solo book, #LoveBig: The Power of Revolutionary Relationships to Heal the World will be published by Theology for the People, a division of Fortress Press in 2018.
Ms. White will also be leading worship at St. Paul Lutheran Church at both the 8:00 and 10:45 services while also hosting an adult study in between.
Rozella Haydée White is a life and leadership coach, creator, and consultant. She is the owner of RHW Consulting, which was birthed out of Rozella’s desire to help restore people’s hearts to wholeness. RHW Consulting accompanies individuals, organizations and communities as they figure out what is meaningful and then work to create and live into values that reflect their understanding of a meaningful life. Rozella is committed to the pursuit of justice and is a co-founder of #ResistHouston, a community of connection, empowerment and support for resistance against injustice. Rozella is desperately seeking justice, mercy, humility and love. She believes that everyone is gifted and has the power to transform themselves, their communities and the world when they tap into their most authentic self.
