“Train scouts to do a job, then let them do it. Never do anything a boy can do. It is better to build boys than to mend men." - Robert Baden- Powell
Boy Scout Troop 189 was founded September 1954 under the leadership of C. Gail Norris. Since then the troop has changed in size and leadership and we have produced 69 Eagle Scouts but our scouting values are still the same. Our mission is to build strong character, teach service to others, teach leadership in order to create good citizens, and develop mental and physical fitness in a safe and guided environment.
The troop is based upon the following eight methods followed to develop outstanding individuals: The scouting ideals are; patrol method; leadership and teamwork development; outdoor experiences; advancement opportunities; uniforms; personal growth; and adult associations.
Whether Eagle Scouts or graduates of Troop 189, all who have been associated with the troop over its history have developed leadership skills and created memories that will last them a lifetime.
